3 Success Principles From Tom Brady

Number 1: Discipline is key

You can measure your success based on your level of discipline. Are you willing to put in the work when others are playing? Are you willing to sacrifice? Are you willing to continue on when others would quit? Improve your level of discipline over time and see your success exponentially grow

Number 2: Improve daily

It is hard to change. Our brains are wired to be on autopilot and conserve energy. This means it’s easy to maintain the status quo and have no change. Change can be scary and intimidating. Massive change after leads to burnout after the motivation wears off. If change is small, incremental, and consistent then it can be sustained over a long period of time without motivation wearing off. How can you slowly improve daily?

For me, I started with just learning how to save money and earn more money. That lead me to house hacking a single family home. This snowballed into me owning 5 single family homes. I was then able to use the equity in the single family homes to buy a 20 unit apartment, 40 lot mobile home park, and a 26 unit apartment complex in 1 year. This was a 10 year process, but what got me started was the first simple step of learning to save more money.

Number 3: Focus on the process, not the outcome

The outcome is never as good as it seems. The high isn’t as high as expected and the low isn’t as bad looking in retrospect. I’ve experienced this many times. Buying my first apartment complex was amazing. When buying my 2nd apartment and mobile home park, I felt nothing. What’s key is developing the process to sustain buying real estate over a long term of time without burning out and without losing motivation. To do this focus on the process. How can I sustain buying real estate over decades? You need to scale slow and steady. You need to have good reserves and continue adding more to reserves as you scale your real estate portfolio. Once you obtain a certain number of units and monthly cash flow, start to deleverage yourself.
